Can you explain the TV ratings that appear at the beginning of shows?
The networks implemented a ratings system in 1997 that is similar to movie ratings in order to help parents monitor shows their children watch.
All Children.
Themes and elements in the program are designed for a very young audience and should not upset small children.
Children age 7 or older.
This program may trouble children if they can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality. Physical or comedic violence may occur within the program.
General Audience.
Although not specifically designed for children, most parents would find the program suitable for all ages. The program contains little or no sex, violence or strong language.
Parental Guidance Suggested.
Parents may find some parts of the program inappropriate for younger children. May contain some suggestive dialogue, limited violence or strong language.
Parents Strongly Cautioned.
Many parents would find parts of this program unsuitable for children under 14 years of age. The program may contain intense violence or sexual situations as well as strong dialogue.
Mature Audience Only.
This program is designed for adults and contains graphic violence, explicit sexual activity and/or crude indecent language.
